Type material. Holotype ♂, KENYA: Kakamega forest, 00º13’N, 34º54’E, 13.IV.2002, D. Shilabira-Smith ( MRAC ex. 220546).

Etymology. The name is a noun in apposition of the type locality.

Diagnosis. C. kakamega sp. nov. can be differentiated from other Afrotropical species of Cheiracanthium by the very broad TA on the male palp ( Figs 20–21 View FIGURES 13 – 21. 13 – 18 C ).

Description. Male: (n = 1): TL = 6.7; CL = 3.1; CW = 2.3; OAL = 0.45; OAW = 1.0; CLL = 0.05. Chelicerae robust with long fangs; fang furrow with six teeth of unequal size, with PMT:RMT = 3:3 ( Fig. 19 View FIGURES 13 – 21. 13 – 18 C ). Measurements: AME–AME 0.15; AME–ALE 0.10; AME diameter 0.15; PME–PME 0.20; PME–PLE 0.20; PME diameter 0.15; MOQAW 0.45; MOQPW 0.50; CI (CL/CW) 1.35; LL:CL 6.06; STL 1.70; STW 1.30. Leg measurements: I— 4.6+1.5+5.0+5.7+2.0 = 18.8; II—3.2+1.3+3.2+4.1+1.2 = 13.0; III—2.6+1.0+2.0+3.0+0.9 = 9.5; IV— 3.6+1.3+3.2+4.5+1.2 = 13.8; Palp—1.4+0.5+0.7+1.4 = 4.0. Leg spines: I 0-1p-1p, 2v-21v- 0, 2v- 2v-1v; II 0-1p-1p, 2v 1p- 3v- 1p, 0- 3 v1p- 1v; III 0-1p1r-1p1r, 2v 1p1r-0-1p1r, 2v-2 v1 p1r- 3v 1p1r; IV 0-1p1r-1p1r, 2v- 1p1r-1p1r, 2v 1p1r- 5v 1p1r- 3v 1p1r. Abdomen: creamy yellow with slight heartmark. Palp ( Figs 20–21 View FIGURES 13 – 21. 13 – 18 C ): cymbium elongate, twice as long as tibia (excluding RTA), with a distally pointed apophysis; tibia with DTA and RTA, both ending with a single point at apex; TA broad and sclerotized; EM long, almost encircling tegulum, ending at CON apex; CON not sclerotized but distinct.

Female: unknown.

Distribution. Known only from the type locality in Kenya ( Fig. 53 View FIGURES 52 – 55 ).
