Taxonomic and distributional notes: Wagner et al. (2018) included this taxon within their concept of A. cyanocephalus , however, morphological and molecular analyses of freshly collected material in Huíla Province suggest that the southwestern Angolan populations of Acanthocercus represent an undescribed lineage, closely related to A. atricollis . A formal description of this new form is being prepared. A specimen reported by Angel (1923) from the Kwito region of Cuando Cubango as Agama colonorum is here presumed to be referrable to this new form, as it is the only large, arboreal agamid occurring in this region of Angola.
