The taxon most closely related to the Primates is not very well studied for infections of Encephalitozoon spp . E. cuniculi genotype I and E. intestinalis were detected by PCR in Japanese shrew mole ( Urotrichus talpoides ) in Japan. One of two examined Dsinezumi shrews ( Crocidura dsinezumi ) was positive for E. hellem in the same study ( Tsukada et al., 2013).
