Elaeocarpus aristatus Roxb., Fl. Ind. View in CoL 2: 599 (1832). – Monocera roxburghii Wight, Icon. Pl. Ind. Orient. View in CoL 1(4): [1], t. 63 (1838), nom. illegit., superfl. – Type: W. Roxburgh s.n. (lectotype BM [BM000795193], designated by Chakraborty et al., Ethnobot. Jarawa Tribe Andaman Isl. , India 70 [2020]).

Wight used the name Monocera roxburghii View in CoL for Roxburgh’s Elaeocarpus aristatus View in CoL . As there was nothing to prevent a transfer of Roxburgh’s epithet, Wight’s name is superfluous. A Roxburgh specimen in BM has been selected as lectotype for Elaeocarpus aristatus View in CoL .

Kurz published a var. roxburghii under Embelia robusta View in CoL and shortly after transferred it to the genus Samara . I have not traced any original material for Kurz’s Embelia robusta var. roxburghii .
