Type Locality: Indonesia, Sulawesi Selatan.
Vernacular Names: Moor Macaque.
Synonyms: Macaca cuvieri (Fischer 1829) ; Macaca fusco-ater ( Schinz 1844) ; Macaca hypomelas (Matschie 1901) ; Macaca inornatus (Gray 1866) ; Macaca majuscula Hooijer 1950 .
Distribution: S Sulawesi, south of Tempe Depression ( Indonesia).
Conservation: CITES – Appendix II; IUCN – Endangered.
Discussion: M. nemestrina species group. Type species of Gymnopyga ; see Fooden (1969:79). Included in nigra by Corbet and Hill (1980:87).
