Cancer tetragonon Herbst, 1790: 257 ; atlas, pl. 20, fig. 110 (neotype locality Egypt selected by Crane 1975). Uca (Thalassuca) tetragonon — Crane 1975: 77, pl. 13, figs. 37 D, 63 A, B, 81 F, 82 E [list]. Uca (Gelasimus) tetragonon —Ng et al. 2008: 240 [list].

Material examined. Hainan: 2 3 (25.15, 22.63 mm) (MBMCAS 161691), Sanya, coll. Yang, 5–7 Apr. 1955.

Distribution. West Pacific (the Ryukyus, Taiwan, China, Philippines, Malay Peninsula, Borneo, Indonesia, New Guinea, Australia), Central and South Pacific, and Indian Ocean ( Thailand, Middle East, East Africa). It is a new record for China.

Remarks. Uca tetragonon is widely distributed in the Indian Ocean and West Pacific, from East Africa to Central and South Pacific. It is also common in the islands of East Asia ( Shih 1994; Ng et al. 2001; Yoshigou 2001; Shih et al. 2008). The Chinese specimens were collected from Sanya, in southern Hainan.
