Genus Zygoseius Berlese

The taxonomic placement of the genus Zygoseius Berlese is still undefined. Previously, it has been placed in different families including Ascidae ( Costa, 1963; Hyatt, 1964), Halolaelapidae ( Karg & Schorlemmer, 2009) , Laelapidae ( Vitzthum, 1943) and Pachylaelapidae ( Halliday, 1997; Moraza & Peña, 2005; Lindquist et al., 2009; Childers & Ueckermann, 2015). Molecular analysis suggested the genus Zygoseius to be part of the superfamily Rhodacaroidea ( Sourassou et al., 2015; Ahadiyat & Beaulieu, 2016). This genus is reported for the first time from SA with the species Z. furciger (Berlese) .
