Scheltema & Ivanov, 2000: 351, nomen novum, Rhabdoderma Scheltema, 1989: 56 [non Reiss, 1888, in Pisces, a fossil Coelocanth].

Type species: Rhabdoderma australe Scheltema, 1989 ( OD) .

Diagnosis: Plane of sclerite base or base and blade curved toward body ( Figs 6J View FIGURE 6 , 8L View FIGURE 8 , 12E View FIGURE 12 ), sclerites closely adpressed, without keel or groove. Longitudinal axis of sclerites straight to slightly curved, waist distinct or indistinct, blade nearly as broad as base, lateral edges slightly to markedly convex or straight. Isochromes usually symmetrical. Oral shield sclerites in 3 or more rows.

Distribution: Western Atlantic south of 35º N to the Argentine Basin, including the Gulf of Mexico; eastern Atlantic from the Bay of Biscay to Cape Basin and westernmost Mediterranean; Indian Ocean; and southwestern Pacific (unpublished); on the continental rise at depths between 1,000 and 3,800 m, except for one species between 101 and 211 m in the Bay of Biscay (personal observation) and off Malaga ( Salvini-Plawen, 1999; Scheltema & Ivanov, 2000).

Composition: Cl. amplum n. sp., Cl. australe ( Scheltema, 1989) , Cl. brevicaudatum Scheltema & Ivanov, 2000 , Cl. crassum n. sp., Cl. gagei Ivanov & Scheltema, 2001 , Cl. gladiatum ( Salvini-Plawen, 1992) , Cl. iberogallicum (Salvini–Plawen, 1999) [= P. breve Salvini-Plawen, 1999 , Cl. tricosum Scheltema & Ivanov, 2000 ], Cl. laticarinatum Ivanov & Scheltema, 2001 , Cl. mexicanum n. sp., and Cl. compactum n. sp.
