Diagnosis

Distinct among Mimallonidae , especially in Argentina, southeastern Brazil, and Uruguay where no other similar species are known to occur. The dark brown to nearly black overall coloration, except for the contrastingly lighter brown antennae and relatively large size (wingspan ranging from 43 to 54 mm) are together indicative of this species wherever it occurs. The two species newly described below are similar, but have strikingly contrasting patches of white scales dorsally on the abdomen and ventrally on the thorax that are absent in P. funebris . The two new species are found in southern Central America and western Colombia.

Type Material

SYNTYPE: 1 Ơ, BRAZIL: Paraná (USNM, examined). Schaus (1896) described this species from an indeterminate number of male and female specimens, apparently all from Paraná, Brazil.
