scientific name

Davallia canariensis (L.) Sm.
status

Trichomanes canariense Linnaeus , Species Plantarum 2: 1099. 1753.

"Habitat in Canards, Lusitania, ad latera montium." RCN: 7953.

Type not designated.

Original material: Herb. Linn. No. 1253.12? ( LINN) ; Herb. Linn. No. 1253.10 ( LINN) ; [icon] in Plukenet, Phytographia: 156, t. 291, f. 2. 1694; Almag. Bot.: 156. 1696.

Current name: Davallia canariensis (L.) Sm. ( Davalliaceae ).

Note: Specific epithet spelled “canariensis” in the protologue.

Nooteboom (in Blumea 39: 176. 1994) indicated Löfling material in LINN as the type. However, he did not distinguish between sheets 1253.10 and 1253.12 (neither of which is, in any case, from Löfling), and as they are evidently not part of a single gathering, Art. 9.15 does not apply.
