Type material

Holotype. One male ( IESNU), China, Yichun , Heilongjiang province, 27 ◦ 47 ′ N, 114 ◦ 23 ′ E, altitude 2000 m, 9 July 1971, W. Sun. GoogleMaps

Paratypes. Five males ( IESNU), same data as holotype GoogleMaps .

Etymology

The name of this species is based on distortion of the gonostylus toward the back in profile.

Distribution

China, Heilongjiang Province, Yichun.

Remarks

The new species is similar to Helina ningwuensis Xue and Wang, 1998 , but differs from the latter as follows: frontal vitta about twice as wide as fronto-orbital plate, arista long plumose, the longest aristal hairs longer than the postpedicel in width; pra about two-thirds of posterior notopleural seta in length; costal spine long and strong, about 1.5 times as long as cross-vein r-m, legs all black.

Description (based on holotype)

Male. Body length 6.5 mm.

Colour: Frontal vitta black, parafacial, fronto-orbital plate and gena covered with grey pruinosity, antenna black, genal and postgenal hairs black, palpus black; palpus black. Thorax black in ground-colour, with dark grey pruinosity. Wing brown, veins brown, basicosta dark brown, calypters light yellowish, haltere yellow. Legs all black. Abdomen ground-colour black, covered with greyish-yellow pruinosity, tergites 3 and 4 each with a pair of brown triangular spots.

Head: Eye covered with light and medium ciliae; frons subequal with the distance between posterior ocelli in width, about twice as wide as postpedicel, frontal vitta about twice as wide as fronto-orbital plate, seven pairs of frontal setae on lower twothirds of frons, parafacial about 1.7 times as wide as postpedicel; postpedicel about 2.8 times as long as broad, arista long plumose, the longest aristal hairs longer than the postpedicel in width; anterior margin of gena with one or two rows of upcurved subvibrissal setulae; genal height about one-quarter of eye height, proboscis covered with pruinosity, prementum about twice as long as broad, palpus longer than prementum.

Thorax: Scutum with four broad vittae, the middle pruinose vitta subequal with inner vitta, the inner vitta reaching scutoscutellar suture; the middle of the scutellum with a very broad black stripe, about 3.0 times as wide as the inner vitta; four or five rows of prst-acr, dc 2+3, ial 0+2, pra about two-thirds length of posterior notopleural seta; notopleuron, lateral margin and lower surface of scutellum, prosternum, meron and katepimeron all bare; katepisternal setae 2+2.

Wing: Costal spine long and strong, about 1.5 times as long as cross-vein r-m, radial node bare; distal part of R 4+5 and M straight, diverging apically.

Legs: Fore tibia with one median p; mid-femur with pv on half basal part, midtibia with three p; hind femur with a complete row of av, which are strong on distal part, hind femur with a row of seta-like pv on half basal part, hind tibia with six av, two ad and a row of setae on middle third; tarsomere 1 of fore leg with sensory hairs, all tarsi longer than tibiae in length, claws and pulvilli large.

Abdomen: Cone-shaped in dorsal view, and with shifting patches situated on both sides; sternite 1 bare; sternites two to five each with a pair of stronger long setae.
