Istrianis crauropa Meyrick, 1918: 130 View in CoL ; Clarke 1969: 216, pl. 108, figs. 1–1c.

Material. Not examined.

Adult. See Clarke (1969: pl. 108, figs 1–1b).

Male genitalia. See Clarke (1969:pl. 108, fig. 1c).

Female genitalia. Unknown.

Biology. The larva feeds in May on Butea monosperma (Lam.) Taub (as ‘ Butea frondosa ’) (Leguminosae). Adult emerged in mid June.

Distribution. India.

Diagnosis. As far as we can judge from the figures of the male genitalia by Clarke (1969) I. craurop a belongs to the group of species with subtriangular tegumen with broad lateral arms, and apex of gnathos with a small hook. It can provisionally be placed near to I. sattleri .

Notes. I. crauropa was described from a specimen bred “from a larva feeding externally on the lower surface of a leaf of Butea monosperma (Lam.) Taub (as ‘ Butea frondosa ’) (Leguminosae) in May”—“pupa in a spindleshaped cocoon on leaf”.

The year of description is given as 1910 by Beccaloni et al. (2005), but according to Bainbrigge-Fletcher & Janse (1942) the correct date of publication is 1918.
