Telphusa steganotricha Meyrick, 1935: 585 View in CoL ; Clarke 1969: 220, pl. 220, figs. 3–3b.

Material. Not examined.

Adult. See Clarke (1969: pl. 220, fig. 3).

Male genitalia. See Clarke (1969: pl. 220, fig. 3a, 3b).

Female genitalia. Unknown.

Biology. Larvae feed on Desmodium sp. ( Fabaceae ). The lectotype was collected in June.

Distribution. India, Java.

Diagnosis. I. steganotricha is undoubtedly related to I. crauropa both externally and in the male genitalia.

Notes. Telphusa steganotricha was described from seven specimens bred from larvae feeding on Desmodium (Fabaceae) in India (Orissa: Puri and Dhuanali) and Java. Clarke (1969) figured a male from India, Puri and its genitalia, and designated that specimen as lectotype.

Pitkin (In: Beccaloni et al. 2005) assigned steganotricha to Istrianis , and that has been followed on numerous web-sites, but we have not yet seen it in print.

Telphusa signata Walia & Wadhawan, 2005 View in CoL from North India was stated to be “closely allied to species steganotricha Meyrick View in CoL ” ( Walia & Wadhawan 2005). However, we do not consider it a member of Istrianis View in CoL .
