Annual herbs. Flowers solitary or in few-flowered axillary clusters, these in spiciform infloresences, densely covered with subappressed hairs, bisexual, rarely pistillate; perianth cup-shaped, with 4-5 erect teeth; stamens 4-5; stigmas 2. Pericarp free, membranous; seeds vertical; embryo annular or horseshoe-shaped, Zn = 18. Two spp., C and SW Asia.
