Distribution. Nearctic. Canada: AB, BC, MB, NB, NS, ON, QC, SK. USA: AL, AZ, CA, CO, CT, DC, FL, GA, IA, IL, IN, KS, KY, LA, ME, MA, MD, MI, MN, MO, MS, MT, NC, ND, NE, NH, NJ, NM, NY, OH, OR, PA, RI, SC, SD, TN, TX, UT, VA, VT, WA, WI, WV, WY.

Collection and Habitat data. The NH specimens were collected in ocean drift, litter by stream, maple litter along stream in forest, leaf litter on marsh edge, leaf litter at birch sap drip, in cow dung, and in pig dung in a pasture. Collected from April to September. In Canada adults were captured from decaying vegetation, compost, animal carcasses, under animal dung, fungi, debris on a beach, nests or nest lining of various rodents such as beaver, marmot, Microtus pennsylvanicus , and M. ochrogaster , some were captured in malt, black light, and pitfall traps; in NB specimens were taken from compost (common), from sea wrack on a sandy sea beach, on bare soil among grasses on a residential lawn, and from debris in entrance of fox den in a pasture ( Hoebeke 1985, Klimaszewski et al. 2018).
