Type Locality: Australia, Western Australia, Williams River, Military Station.

Vernacular Names: Red-tailed Phascogale.

Distribution: Inland SW Western Australia, formerly in Northern Territory, South Australia, NW Victoria, SW New South Wales, but probably extinct in all places except the Western Australian wheat belt.

Conservation: IUCN – Endangered.
