Description of Halobacillus litoralis View in CoL JBTF-M5

Gram-stain-positive, aerobic, non-flagellated, rod-shaped bacterium (0.5-0.8 μm wide, 0.8-1.3 μm long). Colonies grown on marine agar are light yellow, circular, slightly convex, and glistening. Oxidase activity is negative. In the API 20NE test, cells are positive for hydrolysis of aesculin and gelatin; and β -galactosidase activity, but negative for nitrate reduction; indole production; glucose fermentation; activity of arginine dihydrolase and urease; and assimilation of D- glucose, L- arabinose, D- mannose, D- mannitol, N -acetyl-glucosamine, D- maltose, potassium gluconate, capric acid, adipic acid, malic acid, trisodium citrate, and phenylacetic acid. Strain JBTF-M5 (= NIBRBAC000503334) was isolated from a tidal flat sample collected from Hwaseong   GoogleMaps , Republic of Korea (37°09 ʹ 48.0 ʺ N, 126°37 ʹ 01.0 ʺ E).
