Generitype of Cercis Linnaeus  (vide Hitchcock, Prop. Brit. Bot.: 152. 1929).

Current name: Cercis siliquastrum L. subsp. siliquastrum  ( Fabaceae  : Caesalpinioideae  ).

Note: Although Isely (in Mem. New York Bot. Gard. 25(2): 211. 1975) indicated that he had seen the protologue and a fiche of material at LINN, he did not formally designate a type. Menéndez de Luarca (in Anales Jard. Bot. Madrid 55: 423. 1997) discusses a Clusius work as a source of information for this species.
