Boliviela cucurbita View in CoL , sp. nov.

(Plate I B, Figs. 8–16)

Length. Male 9.00 mm.; female unknown.

External morphology. Slender species. General color dark brown with numerous, small, yellow spots on veins and 2 large, irregular shaped spots on costa of forewings, head and face dark brown (Plate IB). Head significantly narrower than pronotum, anterior margin acutely angulate; crown slightly narrower than width of eyes, produced distally about 1/3 of entire length, lateral margins nearly parallel, slightly carinate, disk depressed; eyes large, semiglobular; pronotum about ¼ as long as median length of crown; mesonotum equal in length to pronotum; forewings typical; clypeus elongate, lateral margins broadly convex, broad in basal ½; clypellus about 1/3 as long as clypeus, base broad and inflated, lateral margins constricted medially.

Male genitalia. Pygofer narrow with 2 caudal processes, caudodorsal process broad, robust, curved basally, evenly narrowed in distal 2/3, caudoventral process long, very narrow, membranous, nearly reaching apex of caudodorsal lobe ( Fig. 8); right subgenital plate long, robust, outer lateral margin expanded in distal 1/3, moderately setose ( Fig. 9); right style about as long as aedeagus, narrow in distal ¾, slightly inflated in distal ¼ ( Figs. 10, 11); aedeagus narrow in dorsal view, apex inflated, shaft prominently inflated subbasally in lateral view, narrowed in distal ½, apex curved dorsally at apex, apex flanged laterally, two robust spines subbasally, gonopore apical ( Figs. 12, 13, 14); connective small, Y-shaped, stem very short ( Fig. 15); dorsal connective short, bifid basally, attached to base of aedeagal socle in dorsal view, not encircling aedeagal shaft (16).

Material examined. Holotype male. COLOMBIA: Risaralda, SFF Otún Quimbaya Urapanera , 4º 44’N – 75º 35’ W., 1900 m., Malaise, 3/4/03–3/20/03, G. Lopez, leg., M. 3687 ( IAHC). GoogleMaps

Etymology. The name is descriptive resembling shape of certain squash varieties.

Remarks. This species is related to several species in Boliviela in which the shaft of the aedeagus is inflated and can be distinguished easily from them by the aedeagus which has 2 robust, subbasal spines and dorsally recurved apex.
