Europiella unipuncta Knight, 1968: 44 (n. sp., descr., host).

DIAGNOSIS: Recognized by the nearly white coloration of the dorsum, the oval body shape, antennal segment 1 black, segment 2 black on at least proximal one­half (fig. 2), the very large pygophore and vesica, and the detailed structure of the vesical spines, the anterior spine short and sickleshaped, the posterior spine relatively short and weakly curving (fig. 5), a condition shared with E. angulata , E. carvalhoi , and E. pilosula . Europiella unipuncta is most similar in general form and coloration to E. pilosula , E. signicornis , and E. carvalhoi , but can be distinguished from the first two by the entirely pale antennae in those species and from the last by the larger pygophore and genitalia in the present species.

REDESCRIPTION: Male: Moderate­sized, elongate­ovoid species, total length 2.63– 3.08, width pronotum 0.85–1.00. COLOR­ ATION (fig. 2): Dorsum, including membrane pale, white, sometimes partially tinged with green; antennal segment 1 black, segment 2 black at least on proximal half, sometimes entirely black, segments 3 and 4 usually weakly infuscate; labium pale on basal three­fourths, segment 4 black; legs pale, femora with some black spots, tibial spines black with black bases; entire venter pale. SURFACE AND VESTITURE: Surface and vestiture as in generic diagnosis. STRUC­ TURE: Elongate ovoid, corial margin moderately convex. Pygophore very large, occupying well more than half of abdomen. GEN­ ITALIA (fig. 5): Pygophore very large relative to total size of abdomen; vesica large, robust, with short apical spines, anterior spine sickle­shaped, posterior spine narrow and weakly decurved.

Female: Coloration as in male. Body form more broadly ovoid. Total length 2.49–2.78, width pronotum 0.83–0.99.

HOSTS: Recorded from Artemisia spp. , including A. frigida , A. ludoviciana , and most commonly from A. tridentata (Asteraceae) .

DISTRIBUTION: Distributed in more northerly portions of western North America , ranging from British Columbia to Alberta in the north, south to Colorado, Utah, and Nevada.
