Callicebus (Callicebus) cupreus (Spix 1823) View in CoL
[Callithrix] cuprea Spix 1823 View in CoL , Sim. Vespert. Brasil.: 23.
Type Locality: Brazil, Rio Solimões, Tabatinga.
Vernacular Names: Coppery Titi.
Synonyms: Callicebus (Callicebus) acreanus Vieira 1952 ; Callicebus (Callicebus) egeria Thomas 1908 ; Callicebus (Callicebus) toppinii Thomas 1914 .
Distribution: South of the Amazon from Rio Purús to Rio Ucayali, Brazil and Peru; probably Bolivia.
Conservation: CITES – Appendix II; IUCN – Lower Risk (lc).
Discussion: Subgenus Callicebus . C. cupreus species group. Includes caligata , discolor and dubius according to Groves (1992, 2001 c), who argued that, if the distributions are sympatric, as mapped by Hershkovitz (1990), then all these are likely to be colour morphs; but according to van Roosmalen et al. (2002), the distributions given by Hershkovitz are incorrect, and they are vicariant and hence represent differentiated taxa.
