Cotycicuiara View in CoL v-alba sp. nov.

Description. Holotype male. Integument dark-brown, slightly lighter on some areas (somewhat reddish on part of tibiae and antennae); mouthparts reddish-brown, with apex of palpomeres yellowish.
Head. Frons transverse, finely, densely punctate (almost microsculptured); with moderately dense, yellowishwhite pubescence (not entirely obliterating integument), more whitish depending on angle of light; with very sparse, long, dark setae close to eyes and clypeus. Area between upper eye lobes and vertex with sculpture as on frons; pubescence slightly shorter, sparser than on frons, mainly close to prothoracic margin. Area behind eyes with narrow, dense band with yellowish pubescence close to eye, from near apex of upper eye lobe to near inferior side of lower eye lobe; remaining surface glabrous, very finely, moderately abundantly punctate. Genae microsculptured, with short, moderately abundant setae close to eye, smooth, glabrous toward apex. Antennal tubercles with sculpture and pubescence as on frons (pubescence slightly sparser toward apex). Postclypeus narrow, finely, abundantly punctate; with narrow, transverse carinae near base; with short, sparse setae, interspersed with long setae laterally. Labrum with short, moderately abundant setae interspersed with long, also moderately abundant setae. Distance between upper eye lobes 0.3 times length of scape (1.1 times width of one lobe); distance between lower eye lobes in frontal view 0.6 times length of scape. Antennae 1.7 as long as elytral length; reaching elytral apex near apex of antennomere VIII; scape, pedicel and antennomeres with sparse, whitishyellow pubescence (more whitish depending on angle of light); antennal formula based on antennomere III: scape = 0.85; pedicel = 0.23; IV = 0.97; V = 0.79; VI = 0.73; VII = 0.62; VIII = 0.56; IX = 0.53; X = 0.44; XI = 0.41.
Thorax. Prothorax transverse, 1.45 times as wide as long (including lateral tubercles); with large, conical tubercle about middle of lateral sides; tumid laterally between conical tubercle and anterolateral angle (in dorsal view rounded tubercle-shaped). Pronotum coarsely, abundantly punctate throughout (punctures slightly smaller toward anterior margin); with transverse, wide, not deep sulcus between basal margin and middle (slightly deeper laterally); pubescence yellowish (more whitish on some areas), not obliterating integument. Lateral sides of prothorax coarsely, deeply punctate between anterior margin and lateral tubercle (punctures sparser toward ventral side); coarsely, sparsely punctate between basal margin and lateral tubercle (sparser toward ventral side); smooth under lateral tubercle; pubescence as on pronotum. Prosternum narrow centrally, microsculptured, with yellowish pubescence (more whitish depending on angle of light), not obliterating integument. Prosternal process with pubescence as on prosternum, narrow centrally than base of profemoral peduncle. Mesosternum and mesosternal process with yellowish pubescence (more whitish depending on angle of light); mesepisterna and mesepimera with yellowish pubescence (slightly shorter, sparser than on mesosternum). Metepisterna and metasternum with pubescence as on mesosternum. Scutellum with yellowish pubescence, interspersed with whitish pubescence, not obliterating integument. Elytra uniformly narrowed from humeri to apex; apex truncate, with outer angle rounded; coarsely, deeply, abundantly punctate on basal half, gradually finer, sparser toward apex; pubescence yellowishbrown, with large V-shaped area with whitish pubescence on basal half ( Fig. 1 View FIGURES 1 – 5. 1 – 3 ), extended along suture toward distal half, with broken lines with whitish pubescence between V-shaped band and apex.
Abdomen. Ventrites with yellowish-white pubescence (more whitish depending on angle of light); ventrite V with apex widely emarginate. Legs. Femora distinctly clavate; with yellowish-white pubescence (more whitish depending on angle of light). Metatarsomere I about as long as II–III together; metatarsomere V 0.9 times as long as I.
Dimensions (mm). Male. Total length (including mandibles), 8.40–10.50; prothoracic length, 1.7–1.9; anterior prothoracic width, 1.90–2.10; basal prothoracic width, 2.00–2.40; largest prothoracic width, 2.40–2.65; humeral width, 3.10–3.70; elytral length, 6.25–7.10. The smallest dimensions are those of the holotype.
Type material. Holotype male, from BRAZIL, Bahia: Estr. Rio-Bahia, Km 965, Hotel da Divisa, 960 m, Encruzilhada, XI.1972, Seabra & Roppa col. ( MNRJ). Paratype male, same data as holotype, except for XI.1974 ( MZSP).
Etymology. “v-alba”, Latin, allusive to the white pubescence on elytra, similar to the letter v.
Remarks. Cotycicuiara v-alba sp. nov. is similar to C. pertusa , but differs as follows: antennomeres thicker; pronotal and elytral punctures coarser and deeper; elytra with V-shaped band and broken lines with whitish pubescence. In C. pertusa (see photo of holotype at Bezark 2015), the antennomeres are slender, the pronotal and elytral punctures are finer and less deep, and the elytra have not V-shaped band and broken lines with whitish pubescence. It differs from C. nivaria mainly by the elytra with V-shaped band with whitish pubescence (absent in C. nivaria ).
