Pachodynerus View in CoL View at ENA

Not included in the cagalogue is Pachodynerus nasidens (Latreille 1817) . The genus Pachodynerus de Saussure, 1870 , is a New World taxon, with P. nasidens occurring from Argentina to the southern United States ( Willink & Roig-Alsina 1998). It has also been widely introduced into Pacific islands ( Yamane et al. 1996)—it is a classic “tramp” species. It has now also been reported from Australia ( House et al. 2020a,b), where it is nesting at the Brisbane airport and presenting an aviation hazard! This is due to its habit of nesting in pre-existing cavities, as is common in Eumeninae , but in this case unfortunately including pitot probes on aircraft. This problem has not been reported from elsewhere in the range of this species. Possible spread of the species should be monitored.
