Description. Shell medium sized, moderately broad, with gradate spire and subcylindrical whorls. Protoconch conical multispiral of 3.5 convex whorls. Teleoconch of seven whorls. First teleoconch whorl moderately high, smooth. Prominent, orthocline, broad, convex axial ribs on second and subsequent teleoconch whorls. Adsutural spiral cord with indistinct nodes separated by delicate spiral groove on second teleoconch whorl. Later whorls with four spiral cords, overriding axial ribs, forming cancellate sculpture, with weak nodes developed at intersections. Last whorl moderately high, subcylindrical, distinctly constricted at base; axial sculpture weakening over base, strong convex spiral cords on siphonal fasciole. Aperture moderately narrow. Outer lip weakly thickened with about 10 lirae extending deep within aperture. Anal canal incised, V-shaped. Siphonal canal long, narrow, slightly deflected. Columellar callus thickened forming sharply delimited, adherent callus rim, with about five weak columellar denticles. Parietal callus weak.

Shell measurements and ratios. SL: 11.8–17.8 mm, MD: 5.1–6.3 mm, AA: 35–45°, SL/MD: 2.5–2.6, AL/AW: 3.8–4.1, LWH/AH: 1.3.

Discussion. This species was based by Hörnes (1852) on a single juvenile specimen from Baden ( Austria), with prominent sculpture of nodes. In adult shells the nodes are weaker and the last whorl displays a cancellate sculpture. It is separated from its congeners by the presence of axial sculpture.

Palaeoenvironment. Middle neritic to outer neritic. The specimens from the Vienna Basin are found in clay of the Baden Fm., suggesting about 250 m water depth ( Hohenegger et al. 2008).

Distribution in Central Paratethys.? Ottnangian (early Miocene): Kaltenbachgraben (Bavaria) ( Steininger 1973). Badenian (middle Miocene): Carpathian Foredeep: Ostrawa (the Czech Republic) ( Kittl 1887); Vienna Basin: Baden ( Austria); Eisenstadt-Sopron Basin: Sopron ( Hungary) ( Strausz 1966).
