Endemic to the northeast region of Brazil ( Govaerts et al. 2010), specifically the States of Bahia ( Sobral et al. 2010) and Sergipe ( Mendes et al. 2010). New records of this species for State of Pernambuco and Alagoas are presented here.
Trees and shrubs 5–7 m tall. This species differs from Myrcia spectabilis by having reduced (8.5–11.5 cm long), sessile and sagittate leaves; it differs from other Myrcia species by having apiculate and imbricate calyx lobes, a pilose hypanthium and style base and subglobose fruits.
