Endemic to the Atlantic Forest ( Sobral et al. 2009) and previously known only from the Southeast to South regions of Brazil ( Sobral et al. 2010). New records of this species for the Northeast in the States of Bahia, Pernambuco and Alagoas are presented here
Trees 8–10 m tall. This species differs from other Myrcia species by leaves 6.5–10.0 × 2–3 cm, a sulcate midvein on the adaxial lamina surface, deciduous bracts, lanceolate bracteoles, acute and unequal calyx lobes, 4 larger (2 mm long), 1 shorter (1 mm long), a glabrous hypanthium and subglobose fruit.
