Subfamilial diagnosis — Torrenticolinae ( Monatractides , Neoatractides , Pseudotorrenticola , Stygotorrenticola , and Torrenticola ) can be differentiated from Testudacarinae ( Testudacarus ) by the presence of six pairs of acetabula (three in Testudacarus ); a lack of condyles over the insertions of Leg IV; and short posterio-dorsal subcapitular apodemes (except Monatractides , which also have long apodemes). Further, testudacarines are characterized by a single anterio-medial dorsal platelet; pedipalps without ventral projections; and posterio-lateral platelets not within a dorsal furrow, thus visible from above as a ring of platelets around the dorsal plate.
