Species Andinomys edax Thomas 1902
Discussion: Phyllotini . Revised by Hershkovitz (1962). Standard karyotype reported and compared to other phyllotines by Pearson and Patton (1976) and Simonetti and Spotorno (1980). Based on homologous chromosomal bands, Spotorno et al. (1994) suggested the primitive nature of Andinomys and its early divergence within the phyllotine radiation; cladistic studies of morphological traits indicate a later genesis, in a clade variously containing Chinchillula , Irenomys , and Punomys ( Braun, 1993; Steppan, 1995).
