Material examined. BATANG HARI DRAINAGE: ZRC 40472 (1), 487.0 mm SL. ZRC 41524 (2), 540.0, 555.0 mm SL. ZRC 41540 (8), 203.9±223.5 mm SL.

Remarks. The present collection represents the ®rst record of fresh material of H. typus obtained from Sumatra since 1908. The gut contents of four specimens were examined and gastropods ( Rivomarginella electrum (Reeve, 1865) ; family Marginellidae and Pila sp. ; family Ampullaridae ) as well as bivalves ( Physunio sp. ; family Amblemidae , Corbicula javanica (Mousson, 1849) , C. pulchella (Mousson, 1848) , C. rivalis (Philippi, 1850) , Batissa sp. ; family Corbiculidae , and Pisidium sp. ; family Sphaeriidae ) were found in the gut.
