Malaconothrus gracilis was recorded by Purvis (1982) from wet grazed pasture and bog at Carnsore Point, Co. Wexford. A number of specimens from these collections were kindly loaned by Dr G. Purvis and Dr J. Curry and proved to contain three species: M. monodactylus , M. processus and M. purvisi (described below) which is new to science.
