This Nearctic species was described from Mexico and is widespread from central to southern America ( Cuba, Galapagos Islands, Peru) ( Hood 1912). The species is widespread in Saudi Arabia, breeding on grasses. It is similar to B. piceus View in CoL from which it is distinguished by the female being brown and macropterous and the male bicolored and micropterous (in contrast both sexes in B. piceus View in CoL are macropterous and uniformly brown ( Mound 2011a).
