Type Locality: USA, Virginia, Norfolk Co., Norfolk.
Vernacular Names: Golden Mouse.
Synonyms: Ochrotomys aureolus (Audubon and Bachman 1841) ; Ochrotomys flammeus (Goldman 1941) ; Ochrotomys floridanus Packard 1969 ; Ochrotomys lewisi (A. H. Howell 1939) ; Ochrotomys lisae Packard 1969 .
Distribution: SE USA, from SE Missouri across to E West Virginia and S Virginia, south to E Texas, the Gulf coast, and C Florida.
Conservation: IUCN – Lower Risk (lc).
Discussion: Subspecific classification revised by Packard (1969), but Whitaker and Hamilton (1998) saw no basis for recognizing any. See Linzey and Packard (1977, Mammalian Species, 75).
