Otostigmus species of R. V. Chamberlin 1701

Coxopleural process with two end spines, two or three lateral spines, one or no medial spines (this is an unusual position for a coxopleural spine) and one dorsal spine (two end, two lateral, one dorsal).

End legs are small and probably regenerated, with many small spines totalling 23 or 24 on each side. Six to seven ventrolaterals, ve to eight ventromedials, two and two or four medials, ve or four dorsomedials and a corner spine (gure 47). These not arranged in clear rows.

Most trunk legs loose or missing (rst three pairs with two tarsal spines, legs 4–20 with one).

Remarks

This specimen resembles O. punctiventer and O. astenus , diVering principally in its higher antennomere number. The presence of spines on the sternites is an unusual character. Kraepelin (1903) stated that in O. punctiventer from New Britain the sternites are spined ‘mit zerstreuten Dornstrichelchen’ although Pocock (1898) described them as beset with short scattered setae. Further material is required to con rm the characters of this species which appears to be distinct.
