= Lacosteopsis (Prantl) Nakaike, Enum. Pterid. Jap., Fil. 21. 1975.

Vandenboschia View in CoL is pantropical, but a few spp. occur in north temperate regions (e.g., V. boschianum (J.W.Sturm ex Bosch) Ebihara & K.Iwats. View in CoL ). The genus comprises ca. 20 species, and has been divided into two subgenera by Ebihara et al. (2006): subg. Vandenboschia View in CoL (ca. 15+ spp.) and subg. Lacosteopsis (Prantl) Ebihara & K.Iwats ; both subgenera occur in Bolivia. Characters of the genus are: plants often hemiepiphytic, occasionally terrestrial; rhizomes short-creeping to usually long-creeping, relatively thick (0.7–2+ mm diam.), with fronds well-spaced and densely covered with brownish multicellular hairs and with relatively robust roots; blades bipinnate to 4-pinnate-pinnatifid, proximal pinnae often reduced; fronds relatively large, to ca. 50 cm long, often over 25 cm; false veinlets absent; sori lateral on the pinnae; involucres campanulate to tubular, lips dilate or not; receptacles long-exserted; chromosome base number x = 36. Vandenboschia View in CoL is sister to Crepidomanes ( Ebihara et al. 2006) View in CoL .
