Type locality (corrected). Bicudo River , Corinto, Minas Gerais, Brazil.

Bionomics. Adults of this species have been collected in the forest canopy (30 m) ( Lane & Cerqueira 1942). In the present study, immature stages were collected in natural sapucaia nut oviposition traps placed at about 5 m above ground level in a riparian forest at the type locality. In this same place, females were collected biting humans at ground level ( Coleção de Culicidae 2023).

Arbovirus infection records. This species has been found naturally infected with St. Louis encephalitis virus in Brazil ( Hervé et al. 1986).

Occurrence in Brazil. States of Acre, Amazonas, Amapá, Distrito Federal, Goiás, Maranhão, Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, Minas Gerais, Pará, Paraná, Piauí, Rio de Janeiro, Santa Catarina, São Paulo and Tocantins ( Lane & Cerqueira 1942; Lane 1953; Cerqueira 1961; Forattini et al. 1970, 1973; Pinheiro et al. 1981; Forattini et al. 1988; Xavier et al. 1989; Xavier & Mattos 1989; Carvalho et al. 1997; Dégallier et al. 1998; Fé et al. 2003; Guimarães et al. 2003; Hutchings et al. 2005; Marcondes et al. 2006; Santos et al. 2008; Dos Santos Silva et al. 2010; Moreno et al. 2011; Souto et al. 2011; Confalonieri & Costa Neto 2012; Lira-Vieira et al. 2013; Cunha et al. 2019).

Occurrence in other countries. Argentina, Bolivia Colombia, Guyana, French Guiana, Panama, Peru, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago, and Venezuela ( Wilkerson et al. 2021).
