Type locality. Cayenne , French Guiana.

Bionomics. Immature stages of Sa. cyaneus primarily develop in water in tree holes and bamboo internodes ( Shannon 1931). They have been collected mainly in a bamboo trap with a small hole ( Galindo et al. 1951) and natural sapucaia nut oviposition traps ( Santos et al. 2020). The larvae are facultative predators ( Galindo et al. 1951; Galindo 1957, 1958; Hancock et al. 2022). Adults have been collected in forest canopy between 8 and 30 m above ground level ( Ferreira Neto et al. 1970; Pinto et al. 2009).

Arbovirus infection records. Sabethes cyaneus has been found infected with YFV in Brazil ( Vasconcelos 2003). The species exhibited low competence during experimental transmission of ZKV ( Karna et al. 2018).

Occurrence in Brazil. States of Acre, Amazonas Amapá, Bahia, Goiás, Maranhão, Pará, Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo ( Shannon 1931; Lane & Cerqueira 1942; Lane 1953; Ferreira Neto et al. 1970; Forattini et al. 1986a, 1973; Xavier & Mattos 1989; Xavier et al. 1989; Dégallier et al. 1998; Souto & Pimentel 2005; Hutchings et al. 2005, 2011, 2013; Barbosa et al. 2008; Pinto et al. 2009; Confalonieri & Costa Neto 2012).
