Spermophora is in fact an Asian genus ( Huber 2005) and African representatives have tentatively been assigned to it for lack of a better hypothesis ( Huber 2003a). Recent molecular data ( Dimitrov et al. 2012) suggest that at least the six Kenyan species ( Fig. 27 View Figs 24 - 27 ) are closely related to the East African genus Buitinga . Twelve East African species are currently assigned to Spermophora .
