Type Locality: Argentina, Jujuy Prov., Tilcara, 8000 ft (2438 m).
Vernacular Names: Capricorn Pericote.
Distribution: Upper slopes of E Andes, about 2100-3750 m, from SC Bolivia to northernmost Argentina.
Conservation: IUCN – Lower Risk (lc).
Discussion: Demoted to a subspecies of P. darwini by Hershkovitz (1962), but distributional and morphological evidence substantiates the specific recognition of P. caprinus ( Pearson, 1958) .
