This species is monotypic.
Distribution. Greater Amazon Basin in E Colombia, S Venezuela, Guyana, Suriname, E Peru, Brazil, and N Bolivia. View Figure
Descriptive notes. Head body 90-130 mm, tail 45-57 mm, ear 30-47 mm, hindfoot 10-15 mm, forearm 68-75 mm. See general characteristics of the genus under the Black Bonneted Bat ( E. auripendulus ).
Trumbull’s Bonneted Bat is most similar to the Western Bonneted Bat ( E. perotis ) but slightly smaller in overall size and lighter in fur color. Dorsal pelage is brown; venteris paler. Tragusis square-shaped and about 2 mm wide.
Habitat. Lowland Amazonian rainforest below elevations of ¢. 500 m.
Food and Feeding. Beetles have been found in stomach contents of Trumbull’s Bonneted Bat in Brazil.
Breeding. A pregnant Trumbull’s Bonneted Bat and a lactating female were found in November, and anotherlactating female was found in August in Guyana.
Activity patterns. Trumbull’s Bonneted Bats have been found roosting in a hollow moriche palm tree (Maunritiaflexuosa, Arecaceae ), under dry moriche palm leaves, and in roofs of houses.
Movements, Home range and Social organization. No information.
Status and Conservation. Classified as Least Concern on The IUCN Red Lust.
