Taxonomy. Dysopes glaucinus Wagner, 1843 View in CoL ,
“Cuyaba [= Cuiaba],” Mato Grosso, Brazil.
Eumops ferox , E. floridanus , and E. wilson: were formerly classified as subspecies of E. glaucinus but are distinct species here based on morphological and molecular differences. Monotypic.
Distribution. E Andes in Colombia, Venezuela, S Guyana, W, C & S Brazil, N & E Bolivia, Paraguay, and N Argentina. View Figure
Descriptive notes. Head—body 83-91 mm, tail 48-61 mm, ear 20-25 mm, hindfoot 13-20 mm, forearm 54-63 mm; weight 29-42 g. See general characteristics of the genus under the Black Bonneted Bat ( E. auripendulus ). Dorsal pelage of Wagner’s Bonneted Bat is cinnamon-brown, with hairs being pale at bases. Albinism has been reported. Lips are not wrinkled. Ears do not extend past nose. Snout is elongated, with no noseleaf. Tragus is small (4-5 mm) and square-shaped. Chromosomal complement is 2n = 40 and FN = 64.
Habitat. Tropical humid forest, pre-montane dry forest, and urban areas.
Food and Feeding. Stomach contents of Wagner’s Bonneted Bats from Bolivia contained insects including damselflies (Zygoptera), crickets ( Gryllidae ), and water scavenger beetles (Hydrophylidae).
Breeding. Wagner’s Bonneted Bats were pregnant in April and June in Guyana and September in Bolivia.
Activity patterns. Wagner's Bonneted Bats roost in tree hollows and under roofs.
Movements, Home range and Social organization. Colonies of Wagner’s Bonneted Bats usually have one male and several females, suggesting a harem-based social structure.
Status and Conservation. Classified as Least Concern on The IUCN Red List.
