Descriptive notes. Head-body 54-8 63-8 mm, tail 24-7-30-1 mm, ear 11-2-12-6 mm, hindfoot 6:8-10 mm, forearm 31-3-35-5 mm; weight 12-8-15-3 g. Males are slightly larger and darker than females. Dorsal pelage is dark cinnamon-brown; venter is uniformly brown and slightly paler than dorsum; pelageis silky overall, and dorsal fur is not long (c. 4 mm at shoulder); dorsal hairs are weakly bicolored, with basal one-quarter pale buff. Face is blackish and virtually naked. Upper lip and dorsal border of narial region are smooth. Triangular blackish ears are slightly separated from each other at forehead (space less than 4 mm). Patagium, feet, and tail are also blackish. Propatagium is narrow, and posterior plagiopatagium is inserted lateral to base of feet. There is dark cinnamon-brown fur along basal one-third of forearm, and along adjacent propatagium. A patch of fur extends from posterodorsal surface of distal plagiopatagium, next to wrist, to fourth dactylopatagium. Skull is gracile (crests and processes of skull are less marked), with posterior border (interparietal region) expanded posteriorly. Anterior face of lacrimal ridges slopes smoothly proximal to forehead, and incisive foramina are located relatively close to accessory foramen. Anterodorsal margin of external nares is deeply emarginated. Zygomatic process of maxilla is reduced, and does not reach postorbital constriction, which forms smooth angle between anterior rostrum and braincase (130-140°). Lower jaw is gently curved along its posterior margin, and P, measures at least two-thirds the height ofP,.
Habitat. [Lowland evergreen forests at elevations of 195-529 m.
Food and Feeding. The Waorani Dog-faced Bat is an aerial insectivore, but there is no specific information on its preferred food.
Breeding. Non-pregnant lactating females were recorded in March, and a subadult male was caught in February.
Activity patterns. In Napo Province, northern Ecuador, four individuals were caught at c.19:00 h over two consecutive nights; they were caught in nets placed at ground level near a small river; they probably belonged to the same colony and were caught when leaving their roost. Another individual was caught in a high net in Orellana Province, north-eastern Ecuador.
Movements, Home range and Social organization. No information.
Status and Conservation. Not assessed on The IUCN Red List.
