Holothuria bataviae Ludwig, 1889 and Holothuria kurti Ludwig, 1891

Unfortunately, Ludwig introduced two nomina nova for Holothuria lamperti Sluiter, 1889 [non Holothuria lamperti Ludwig, 1886a ] (see Table 3).

Holothuria bataviae was erected by Ludwig on page 174 (footnote) (= fascicles 5/6 of Ludwig 1889-1892 = Ludwig 1889), but is probably a forgotten name since it is missing for instance in the annotated catalogue of Holothuroidea by Smiley & Pawson (1991) or in the World Register of Marine Species. However, Holothuria kurti (introduced by Ludwig in a footnote on page 329 = fascicle 13/14 of Ludwig 1889-1892 = Ludwig 1891b) on the other hand gained acceptance to replace Holothuria lamperti Sluiter (e.g., Meissner 1895; Koehler & Vaney 1908; Sluiter 1914; Samyn et al. 2010). Lately Liao Yulin thought that H. kurti Ludwig, 1891 is probably a young H. (Theelothuria) ocellata ( Liao 1980) , other authors placed this species in the subgenus H. ( Holothuria ) and H. (Metriatyla) (cf. Rowe & Gates 1995).] Presently, H. kurti Ludwig, 1891 is considered to be a species of H. (Theelothuria) ( Paulay 2014b).
