Distribution: Global: Eastern Pacific Ocean; from the mouth of the Gulf of California, Mexico, to northern Peru, as well as Cocos and the Galapagos Islands; entering estuaries and littoral lagoons and ascending river courses; Costa Rica: IC, Ni, Te, Be, Ba, Ta, Pi, Tr and Co (Pacific), 0– 100 m.a.s.l., Per, Dia.

Occurrence and conservation status: Nat, LC.
