Sphingonotus obscuratus obscuratus (Walker, 1870)

Diagnosis: It can be identified by its wing fascia not strongly narrowed anteriorly, apical spots large and well developed.

Habitats: Deserticolous. It is found on dry ground. The specimens are attracted to light.

Material examined: AI Shati Region: Brack, 2♂, 8♀, 15.iv.96; Qattah , 3♀, at light, 20.iv.1996 .

Localities: Cyrenaica: Augila, Barka, Giarabub, Porto Bardia; Tripolitania: Mizda, Scegga, Dadi, Sofeggin; Fezzan: Brack, Qattah.

Distribution: Libya, Egypt, Sinai, S.W. Asia.

Remarks: This nominate subspecies was recorded from Cyrenaica by Mishchenko (1937) and from Tripolitania by La Greca (1958).
