Etymology. This epithet is taken from the Latin adjective varius, meaning variable, and reflects the degree of variation apparent in this species.
Remarks. A variable species which is most easily distinguished by the length of the pubescence and the form of the genitalia.
Type data. Holotype: ♀, Andasibe N.P., Circuit Indri 2, sifting, 20.xi.2010, S.Rahanitriniaina (BMNH). Paratypes: 21 exs. same data as holotype; 14 exs., Andasibe, ASB/ 09/2011, forest litter, sifting, Winkler app. extr., S.18˚56’506’’ E.48˚25’222’’, 944 m, 12.iv.2011, L.S.Rahanitriniaina (BMNH).; 2♀, Andasibe N.P., ASB/07/2011, shallow ravine, sifting, Winkler app. extr., S.18˚56’505’’ E. 48˚25’204’’, 947 m, 11.iv.2011, L.S.Rahanitriniaina (BMNH).
