scientific name

Cirsium vulgare (Savi) Ten.
status

Carduus lanceolatus Linnaeus View in CoL , Species Plantarum 2: 821. 1753.

"Habitat in Europae cultis ruderatis." RCN: 5945.

Lectotype (Talavera & Valdés in Lagascalia 5: 197. 1976): Herb. Linn. No. 966.1 ( LINN) .

Current name: Cirsium vulgare (Savi) Ten. View in CoL ( Asteraceae ).

Note: Jeffrey (in Kew Bull. 22: 129. 1968) indicated material in the Clifford herbarium (BM) as lectotype. However, he did not distinguish between the two sheets preserved there and, as they evidently are not part of a single gathering, Art. 9.15 does not apply. Talavera & Valdés therefore appear to have made the earliest explicit type choice.
