status

gen. nov.

Neolibiocoris Bai, Heiss & Cai , gen. nov.

Type species. Neolibiocoris obtusus Bai, Heiss & Cai , sp. nov.

Diagnosis. Apterous, of medium size (5.1–6.4 mm), habitus elongate oval; coloration reddish brown, surface glabrous; lateral margins of body, legs and antennae with setigerous tubercles; thorax with a median longitudinal conical sclerite along meso- and metanotum, then restricted and depressed and carinate along mtg I+II, the fusion line between metanotum and mtg I+II marked by a suture; spiracles III–VII lateral, visible from above. Male vltg VII with a shiny, large, obliquely raised callus across whole vltg.

Description. Head longer than wide across eyes; genae slender, apices acute; antenniferous tubercles stout, conical, apically pointed; antennae long and slender, first segment stout and clavate, longest, second cylindrical, third longer than second and cylindrical, fourth fusiform, shortest; eyes small, semiglobose, with convex face; postocular borders incised behind eyes, then straightly converging posteriorly to constricted neck; rostrum arising from a slit-like atrium not reaching limits of rostral groove.

Thorax and mtg I+II. Pronotum attenuated anteriorly, anterolateral angles produced and forming blunt subrounded lobes, reaching or not reaching to collar, disc with median groove, separated from mesonotum by a transverse intersegmental furrow; meso- and metanota separated only laterally, the elevated median conical ridge granulate, with longitudinal sulcus; lateral sclerites with longitudinal elevations; metanotum separated from fused mtg I+II by a narrow transverse sulcus.

Abdomen. Mtg III to VI fused into a subrectangular tergal plate, slightly elevated along midline with usual pattern of large and small callous spots and dots; mtg VII strongly elevated posteriorly in male and slightly elevated in female; pygophore short, heart-shaped; paratergites VIII clavate or lobiform.

Venter. Prosternum with a median longitudinal elevation, anteriorly granulate; meso- and metasterna fused, flattened medially, spiracle VIII terminal on ptg VIII; male vltg VII with shiny, large, obliquely raised callus.

Legs. Long and slender, without spines, preapical comb on fore tibia present, femora subcylindrical, claws with fine pulvilli.

Etymology. From the Greek prefix neo - (Greek), meaning “new”, combined with the generic name Libiocoris .

Distribution. China (Hainan).

Discussion. Neolibiocoris gen. nov. is related to Paralibiocoris Bai, Heiss & Cai, 2018 , which is also described from Hainan Island. It differs however by obtuse anterolateral angles of pronotum, not produced over collar, the elongate conical shape of median thoracic sclerite with granulate surface and longitudinal sulcus, by large shiny callus on vltg VII of male and heart shaped pygophore ( Figs. 1-15 View FIGURES 1–4 View FIGURES 5–15 ) (vs. anterolateral angles of pronotum rounded and produced over collar, median thoracic sclerite bottle shaped with smooth surface, by small oblique callus on vltg VII of male and conically produced pygophore (Figs. 39,40).
