Acreichthys tomentosus (Linnaeus 1758) —Seagrass filefish ( Fig. 166 )

Status at New Ireland. New record, based on NTUM 11420 (1 specimen, 13.1 mm SL, St. KD 16, north of Manne Island, Kavieng District, 02°42.068’S 150°39.433’E, 6–10 m depth, 11 June 2014). Specimens photographed at Lissenung Island by Dietmar Amon on 11 Oct. 2007, and at 2 m depth by Dean Tully on 7 July 2011 .

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 2.—General distribution: Sri Lanka east to Philippines and New Guinea, north to Ryukyu Islands, south to Queensland ( Australia) and New Caledonia. Solitary, among seagrass or in sheltered coral reefs, 0–15 m depth. Marine.
