Status at New Ireland. New record, based on a video of a specimen taken on north coast of Manne Island, Kavieng District at 1–11 m depth, St. KR 36, in 2014 (identified by Barry C. Russell); another taken at Alexander Passage, off southeastern New Hanover , at 5–14 m depth, St. KR 96, in 2014.

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2.—General distribution: Red Sea, East and South Africa east to Hawaiian and Line islands and Tuamotu Archipelago, north to southern Japan, south to Western Australia, New South Wales ( Australia), New Caledonia and Tonga. Found on sand-rubble bottoms near reefs, 1–22 m depth. Marine.
