Ptereleotris heteroptera (Bleeker 1855) View in CoL —Spot-tail dartfish

Status at New Ireland. New record, based on specimen photographed at Lissenung Island, Kavieng District , 16 m depth, by Dean Tully on 7 July 2011; another pair photographed at St. KVG22 (northeast of Lemus Island, Kavieng District) by Serge Andréfouët on 21 Aug. 2014 ; a video of a specimen taken in Senta Pass, east of New Hanover at 5–12 m depth, St. KR 114, in 2014 .

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2.—General distribution: Red Sea and East Africa east to Hawaiian, Line and Society islands, north to Ryukyu Islands, south to New South Wales ( Australia). Found in burrows on sand or coral rubble bottom on the barrier reef slope, 3–46 m depth. Marine.
